A woman, in late twenties, approached police on Monday alleging that her husband created her profile on several adult websites after they got separated a few months after their marriage two years ago.
The woman, who now lives with her parents at their house in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, has lodged a complaint with the cyber cell of Delhi Police. The woman told the police that she got married in March 2011 but separated soon afterwards as her computer-savvy husband used to harass her physically and sexually for dowry.
She informed the police that she has been receiving a number of calls from people making sexual advances to her for the past few days.
She also alleged that her husband created her fake profiles on various adult websites which carried some obscene messages and her mobile number. When she asked the callers about the source of her contact number, they gave her the address of some adult websites, a senior police officer said.
The police registered a case under sections 66 A and 67 of Information Technology Act at the cyber cell. The victim’s husband, Ashwani Gautam, a resident of Agra, has been named as the prime suspect.
The victim approached Sangam Vihar police station and filed her complaint which was transferred to the cyber cell. The officer confirmed that the complaint has been received and they are verifying the websites and the internet protocol (IP) address from where the objectionable content was uploaded. If her husband is found guilty, he will be arrested soon, said the officer.
Meanwhile, Ashwani’s father, Tilak Chand, who is a sub-inspector in UP Police and currently posted in Meerut, denied the allegations and told Deccan Herald that they never demanded any dowry from his daughter-in-law and want her to return to Agra.
He said that his son has been falsely implicated in the case and that it was a conspiracy for a divorce from his son.
