Two women found hanging

Last Updated 16 January 2013, 19:47 IST

Two women were found hanging in separate incidents in the City on Tuesday night.

Chaitra, 21, was found hanging with a dupatta at her house in RPC Layout on Tuesday night. She had completed her diploma in architecture and was working at a private construction company.

She was living with her mother Radha Bai. Her father had passed away a few years ago. To make ends meet, Radha Bai had set up a tailoring shop. According to police, one of Radha Bai’s relatives was in love with Chaitra and had expressed his desire to marry her. Chaitra, however, had rejected the proposal.

But her mother was adamant to get Chaitra married to her relative. On Tuesday evening, she visited her relative’s house to finalise the alliance. Chaitra, who was dejected by the turn of events, might have committed suicide, the police added.

Radha Bai, who returned home late in the night, grew suspicious when Chaitra did not respond to her knock on the door. With the aid of her neighbours, she broke open the door only to find her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. The police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body.

Second case

In the other incident, a woman was found hanging at her house in Shivanagar on Tuesday night. The dead, Lakshmi, 32, was married to Ravi Kumar, a hotelier. The couple have a two-year-old daughter. Lakshmi worked as an accountant at a private firm.
