Two get jail term for Ganja sale in Madikeri

Two persons were sentenced for selling Ganja. The district and sessions court Judge S R Somashekhar ordered the jail sentence for the accused on Wednesday. As many as 62 packets totally weighing 5 kgs of Ganja were siezed from a petty shop run by P B Ummar on May 31, 2007.

Similarly Ganja leaves, seeds and sticks weighing 1.2 kg were found in a polythene bag were also seized from another accused Syad Pasha and a charge sheet was filed by Siddapur police.

Rs 15,000 penalty

After investigating the case, the Judge ordered a jail sentence of five years and Rs 15,000 fine to Syad Pasha and said that if he fails to pay the amount, he will have to face an additional stringent punishment of one year.

P B Ummar has been sentenced with a stringent punishment of three months and a fine of Rs 5,000.

 If he fails to pay the fine amount, he should face an extra stringent punishment of one month, the court has said.

The final argument in the case was presented by public procecuter (in-charge) A A Para Shetty.
