Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bangalore North East) G Ramesh, who is scheduled to get a promotion to the rank of DIG, has written to the hief secretary, saying that he should not be appointed as the Lokayukta DIG.

Ramesh says in the letter: “As per the government notification dated January 19, I have handed over the charge of the post of DCP (North East Division), Bangalore and presently, I am awaiting further posting.

Sir, I have worked in the Karnataka Lokayukta for over 11 years and as such, I am not interested to work in that organisation again. Hence, I may kindly be considered for any suitable posting and particularly, in any posting in Bangalore.”

The senior IPS officer was seen as the State government’s candidate for the post of Lokayukta DIG and as a result, has decided to withdraw himself from the ‘race’. It was widely believed that Ramesh was likely to be nominated in ‘contradiction’ with the ‘wishes’ of the stand-in Lokayukta, Justice S B Majage.
