Navodaya students suffer as staff strike enters 9th day

 Students suffered in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across the country as the teaching and non-teaching staff continued their strike for the ninth day on Thursday, regretting no move from the government to resolve their demands.

“Despite several meeting with the HRD Minister and submission of memorandum, no move has been initiated to meet our demands,” said general secretary of All India Navodaya Vidyalaya Staff Association L B Reddy.

He said the strike, which began on February 6, has affected studies of over three lakh students.

The dharna held here on Thursday was participated by  20,000 staff, demanding pension, 10 per cent special allowance to the non-teaching staff and modified assured career progression scheme to teaching staff.

The agitating staff is also demanding promotion of the ‘deserved staff on fast-track’, creation of postgraduate teachers  posts in regional languages.
