Governor nod to daily wage employees bill

The Karnataka Daily Wage Employees Welfare Bill, 2012 passed in the Belgaum legislature session last year has got the assent of the Governor, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar announced in Bangalore on Saturday.

“The Governor has given his assent to the bill on Friday. The move will pave way for regularising the services of 23,000 daily wage workers serving in various government departments, local bodies, boards and corporations,” Shettar said at a convention on “Effective implementation of Sakaala and people friendly governance” organised by the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association.

According to the provisions of the bill, daily wage workers who are working since July 1, 1984 and those who had completed ten years of service as on April 10, 2006, would be regularised. These include around 17,000 serving in 24 government departments and another 6,000 daily wage workers employed in urban local bodies and corporations.

The move is expected to cost the State exchequer an additional Rs 85 crore per annum.
Shettar said the State government always stood by its employees and expected the employees to reciprocate the gesture by taking the programmes of the government to the people.
The cooperation of the employees was of paramount importance for the government to render a people friendly administration and governance, he added.

On five per cent hike in house rent allowance (HRA)Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike   employees, he said the demands would be considered.
