Unmukt holds Delhi innings together

Rohtak, Mar 2, 2013, PTI:

Unmukt Chand’s impressive half-century was the lone bright spot on an otherwise dull day for Delhi as they were struggling at 165 for six in reply to Haryana’s first innings total of 307 in a Group B Ranji Trophy match here on Sunday.

Delhi still need 143 runs to gain the first innings lead and Unmukt has very little support left with Sumit Narwal being dismissed off the last ball of the second day by Haryana skipper Amit Mishra.

Mishra has taken two wickets while medium-pacer Harshal Patel has also accounted for two.
Unmukt, who has faced 130 balls hit eight fours and two sixes, didn’t get much support with senior pro Rajat Bhatia (21) getting out even after spending considerable time in the middle.
The only significant partnership of the Delhi innings so far has been the 67 for the fourth-wicket by Unmukt and Bhatia. To make matters worse for Delhi, Mithun Manhas (20) was forced to retire hurt.

Unmukt now has Vikas Mishra, Parvinder Awana and Manoj Chauhan for company and it will be a big ask for the youngster to ensure first innings lead for his team.

Earlier in the day, Haryana resumed from 219 for six and their tail wagged considerably to help the hosts cross the 300-run mark. Harshal Patel smashed a quickfire 39 off 49 balls even as Awana got a five-wicket haul.

Awana’s five for 71 was his seventh five-for in first-class cricket but now he will have to perform with the bat in order to bail his team out.

Brief scores: Haryana: 307 all out in 117.4 overs (Rahul Dewan 71, Nitin Saini 45, Rahul Dalal 48, Sunny Singh 28, Harshal Patel 39; Parwinder Awana 5-71, Vikas Mishra 2-70) vs Delhi: 165/6 in 54.3 overs (Unmukt Chand 76 batting, Harshal Patel 2-42, Amit Mishra 2-48).
