Israeli TV has gone to the dogs, literally!

An Israeli cable TV company has set out to solve the problem of bored pooches by launching the first ever television channel in the country primarily aimed at dogs.
Initially launched in the US last year, ‘Dog TV’ is now available in Israel and aims to comfort canines left at home alone with a combination of soothing music and special colours which dogs can see.

Available in Israel on Channel 39, Dog TV was launched a year ago in San Diego and is already available all over California, ‘The Independent’ reported.
The programmes on the channel run up to six minutes in length and are scientifically designed to keep dogs stimulated, happy and comforted when they are left alone at home.

The idea behind the channel for dogs is to reduce the loneliness and abandonment anxiety that the canines suffer when left alone by owner, CEO of the Dog TV company Gilad Neumann said.

The aim Neumann said is to “create a companionship environment”.

“Owners can be sure it is all appropriate, and there is no content that scares or stresses the dog, like loud or sudden noises,”  Neumann said, adding the channel is fully suitable for dogs.

“The Humane Society of America suggests leaving your TV on for your dog when you go out,” the paper quoted Neumann as telling the Jerusalem post.

“But what do you leave on? Animal Planet often shows violent images of animals killing, and that can upset a dog. People put on CNN but then again, dogs are upset by seeing violence. And the commercials can be loud and irritating,” said Neumann.
The Dog TV claims on its website that the channel is “scientifically developed and pup approved”.

“Dog TV is cable’s first television network for dogs that is created exclusively for canines, and the humans who love them,” the website says.
