With private firms failing to properly survey government properties in and around Bangalore, Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban District has now assigned 43 surveyors of revenue department to measure storm water drains (SWDs) in and around City.

These surveyors will work under storm water drain (SWD) division of BBMP and submit reports to Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban District. Following the High Court order to protect all storm water drains across the City, BBMP’s SWD section sought the assistance of District Revenue Department to provide surveyors. However, shortage of surveyors made the revenue department engage a private firm to measure and protect government properties. But the firm could not live up to the expectation as their surveyors failed.

Fearing the wrath of High Court for non-compliance of its order, BBMP officials asked Urban DC to provide surveyors who could survey the SWDs and help them fence its boundaries.
Recently Urban Deputy Commissioner,  G C Prakash passed an order providing 43 surveyors to SWD division of BBMP.

These surveyors from different taluks of the district have been given specific villages and localities. Prakash has also directed that each surveyor has to survey at least two km of SWD a week and report submitted along with survey map on weekly basis.

Observers of the taluk have also been pressed into service. The surveyors will commence work from Monday next. Palike sources said with the help of these surveyors, all SWDs in the City can be mapped within six months.
