Ensure that there was no shortage of water, ZP chief tells officials

Utilise funds effectively released by the government

Zilla Panchayat president B Shivappa has directed the officials to ensure that there was no shortage of water in the district. The officials should initiate measure to supply drinking water to the areas which face acute shortage of water.

Speaking at monthly KDP meeting in Madikeri on Wednesday, there are reports on shortage of water in a few villages. The officials should respond to the woes of the citizens.

Funds released by the state and central governments during 2012-13 should be utilised effectively. The officials should ensure that the funds does not return back to the government.

Kannada Jagrithi Samithi member T P Ramesh said that the officials have failed to earmark sites for the destitutes in the district.

The Taluk Panchayat EOs and Tahsildars should conduct joint survey to identify the land and distribute it among the poor. Reacting to it, ZP deputy secretary Puttaswamy said that work on 117 houses have been completed under Basava Vasathi Yojana. The target was 2902 houses.

The work on 1,399 houses are in progress.

Ramesh said that the officials should ensure that Kannada is implemented in administration. A resolution on the effective use of Kannada language should be passed and sent to the Deputy Commissioner.

Zilla Panchayat standing committee on agriculture and industry president Ballaranda Mani Uthappa said rich have encroached government land at Chettalli.

There is a need to reclaim the land and distribute it among the poor. The tribals who have been residing at Valnoor Thyagathur gram panchayat have not been given title deeds so far.

Zilla Panchayat standing committee on health and education president Mani Nanjappa said that there was a need to initiate action against the teachers who were responsible for torturing a student who had later committed suicide.
