A 25-year-old man was shot dead after an argument with his four friends while celebrating Holi at east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri on Wednesday, police said.

Rahul was a resident of Kalyanpuri and worked as a cleaner with a private company in Nodia. He went out of house when his four friends Rajnish, Sohan, Satish and Kishan came at his place during late afternoon.

While playing with colours and dancing near their house, Rahul had a verbal argument with his friends which ensued a fight.

During the fight, one of his friends took a pistol and shot at him, and they fled from the spot.

The neighbours and the family members rushed him to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

“We received a call at 4:30 pm and rushed to the spot. Later we went to the hospital where the victim was declared brought dead,” said a police officer.

Police learnt that Rahul was living with father Mange Ram, who works with East Delhi Municipal Corporation’s sanitation department as a cleaner, wife Santosh, two sisters and a younger brother.

Rahul married Santosh two years ago and a baby was born a week ago.

Police also learnt that Rahul and his friends were drunk when the quarrel broke out and he was shot dead.

“We have managed to nab Rajnish and Sohan, and looking for the other two friends who are on the run,” said the officer.

Police said they suspect personal enmity to be the reason behind the incident.

His body has been handed over to his family after an autopsy on Thursday.

“We are still investigating and questioning. The motive behind the murder is still to be ascertained,”  added the officer.
