To put the spotlight on German festivities in Delhi is the objective of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC).

At its second edition of the ‘German Spring fest’ in the City on March 30, the buzz of spring was in the air.

Spring was everywhere – both for shoppers and foodies. It was a time of celebration before the summer sun got hotter. Lifestyle products, designer home accessories, high-end fashion wear, children’s products, garden accessories and delicious food were on sale during the fest.

The one-day spring extravaganza started with a bang with shoppers making a beeline for the market area where a wide variety of clothes, jewellery, cosmetics, foot products, home and garden accessories were showcased. The kids had fun too. ‘Itsy Bitsy’ and ‘Wonderland School’ organised several games and competitions. The youth kept the beat when the ‘The Mavericks’ performed scintillatingly.

The IGCC is a well-known name in the City as it is behind some of the biggest events, including the Oktoberfest and the German Christmas Market. Last year, it is said, there were about 4,000 footfalls. The number of visitors increased this year.

“The ultimate aim of these fests is to make Delhiites aware of the German culture and to make the huge expat community in Delhi feel at home. We hope to be able to achieve both our aims with more and more events every year,” said Guido Christ, Deputy Director General, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce.

Last, but not least, the food and drink areas, was popular. The variety of food, along with the German beers and wines, was impressive.

It’s just a one-day fest now, but the Chamber may want to rethink that given its reach and hugely successful outcome.
