Marishamachar passes away

 Veteran sculptor and painter and former Karnataka Shilpa Kala Academy registrar N Marishamachar passed away on Wednesday. He was 62. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. The final rites took place at Wilson Garden electric crematorium.

Marishamachar was born on May 15, 1951 at Vijayapura in Bangalore Rural district. He completed his diploma at Ken Art School and completed higher education at Baroda and bagged second ranks in both the institutions. He began his career as a drawing teacher at Sharada Vilas College in Mysore.

He served as exhibition officer at the Department of Kannada and Culture for more than 31 years and served as an office-bearer of several organisations. Kannada Pusthaka Pradhikara and Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy honoured him with awards and he was popularly known as the walking art encyclopaedia.

He also won K K Hebbar and R M Hadapad awards and Suvarna Karnataka Award in 2007.

He organised several workshops for sculptors in rural areas when he was the registrar. He stressed the need for exhibition of works of professional artists during Chitra Santhes.
