Bellary District In-charge Minister Anand Singh has announced that he would contest from the Vijayanagara constituency on BJP ticket and will file his nomination on April 15.

Singh had announced that he would stay away from electoral politics and had not campaigned for the party candidates in the recently-concluded elections to the urban local bodies in the district.

Later on, he had declared that he would contest as an Independent in the forthcoming Assembly elections and tender his resignation to the primary membership of the BJP and also resign as a minister.

Speaking to Deccan Herald on the phone, he said: “President of BJP State Unit, Pralhad Joshi and the party’s national president Rajnath Singh convinced me not to quit the BJP. Instead, they advised me to focus on strengthening the party in the district. Bowing to the pressures of the leaders, I have decided to continue in the BJP.”
