Mechanic crushed to death in factory

Deepak Kumar Mehta, 27, a resident of Parimala Nagar, Nandini Layout, was killed in a freak accident at a printing machine repair shop at Ashokapuram, Mahalakshmi Layout on Friday afternoon.

Mehta from Bihar, who was employed by Shakti Cranes, was working on contract at Kumar Industries. He was shifting a huge printing machine on a trolley, when the accident occurred.

The trolley hit a small obstacle and lost balance. The printing machine rolled backwards over Mehta. He sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he died on Friday night. Police sources said that the machine weighed more than two tonnes.

Autopsy was carried out at MS Ramaiah Hospital and the body will be airlifted to his native place on Sunday, said the police. Mahalakshmi Layout police have registered a case of negligence under Section 304A against both the owners of Shakti Cranes and Kumar Industries and are further investigating the case.

Youth found murdered

An unidentified youth, aged 26, was found murdered near NICE Road at Nayandahali in Byatarayanapura police limits. Local residents noticed a body with head injuries at around 2.30 am and informed the police. The police are trying to ascertain his name, background and other details.
