A 22-year-old MBA student was allegedly attacked with a blade by four youth in a road rage incident in south-east Delhi’s Sangam Vihar. Police arrested two of the accused on the spot.

Manpreet Singh, a first-year student of Amity University in Noida, lives with his family in Sangam Vihar K-Block.

He sustained slash wounds on his chest and hands, and was treatment at AIIMS trauma centre.

Police said Manpreet was returning home with his father, Dayal, in a car when the incident happened at 10.30 pm.

“Dayal was driving. They were passing through Sangam Vihar H-Block when four youth were seen standing on the middle of a bylane,” a police officer said. Dayal blew the horn, but the youth did not move.

One of them then came to the driver’s side of the vehicle and misbehaved with Dayal. Manpreet objected to their behaviour and came out of the car.

Beaten up

“The accused allegedly beat up Manpreet after a heated argument, and pushed Dayal when he intervened,” the officer added.

Dayal fell on the ground on being pushed. When Manpreet came to his aid, one of the youth attacked him with a blade.

The assault stopped when two police officers on a motorcycle, who were on patrol, came to the spot.

Overpowered

The police officers overpowered two of the attackers, who were later identified as Deepak Lal and Deepak, both residents of Sangam Vihar H-Block. The other two accused fled from the spot.

“Manpreet was taken to hospital in an ambulance,” the officer said.

A case of causing hurt by dangerous weapon has been filed with Sangam Vihar police station.

Manpreet also claimed he lost a gold chain during the melee, while Rs 15,000 cash was stolen from the car.
