'And the worst film is'

Bangaloreans are always up for a good laugh — a fact proven by the turnout on both shows of ‘The Bollywood Razzies’, organised by Comedia Dell Arte at The Park and Alila Hotel over the weekend.

Emulating the ‘Razzies’, an American award presented in recognition of the
worst in film, the parody film awards ceremony was a big hit among the young
and old who attended.

Mumbai-based comedians Gursimran Khamba, Tanmay Bhat, Rohan Joshi, Ashish Shakya and Daniel Fernandes took the City through the oddest of categories and
obscurest of nominees.

Offensive but amusing, there were, among other things, ‘Worst Ads of 2012’, bagged by Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Garnier White Cream’ ad; ‘Worst Lyric’ won by ‘Pon Pon Pon’ from ‘Son of Sardaar’; ‘Worst Supporting Turd’ in male and female categories and even the surreal ‘Fresh Feces of the Year’.

Other than the awards, there were also some sketches and reinventions of some
Bollywood classics, an interesting change of format.

There was also the expected picking on members of the audience, especially
when it came to specific individuals laughing a little more than normal at the dirty jokes.

No personality or topic was spared in the jokes – Raj Thackeray, Jackie Shroff,
Anu Malik, Indian mothers-in-law, Ekta Kapoor serials, sati, item numbers and what not!

“Personally, I found it to be a little too Bollywood centric. But maybe it’s just a new
format to see stand up comedy in. Still, it was entertaining and I loved their expressions. Tanmay Bhat, especially, was superb,” shares Paul, an audience member.

Like him, while most members of the unsuspecting audience were kept entertained through the two-hour show, some found it to be slightly lacking.
“It was a funny evening, but I’ve seen better shows in the past,” says Aditya, an
attendee.
