A woman and her one-year-old child were found dead at their house in Yeshwantpur on Wednesday.

The victim, Deepa, 24, lived with her husband Balasubramanya, 30, and their daughter Kanishka in their rented house at Bombay Dyeing Cross Road. The couple had been married for four years and hailed from Tamil Nadu.

Balasubramanya was air-conditioner mechanic and Deepa was a homemaker.
According to the police, the incident came to light when Nanjappa, the landlord, entered Deepa’s house on finding the front door ajar.

Deepa was found hanging from the ceiling. Later, when the police arrived at the scene, they also found Kanishka’s body in the bedroom. The police found a suicide note near Deepa's body, which said she was solely responsible for her death. The bodies were taken to M S Ramaiah Hospital.

Smothered to death

The blood stains on the face of the child indicated that she might have been smothered to death with a pillow, doctors at the hospital said.

“They have been our tenants for over three years since they arrived in the City. Not once have we heard them quarrel or seen them fight. They have been living very peacefully and this is a shocker,” Nanjappa said.
