Showkat Ahmad Parray from Barmulla district, who was selected for the Indian Police Service in 2011, made it to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) by bagging the 41st rank.Other candidates from the Valley who cracked the exam include Khurshid Ali Qadri–95th rank, Naveed Tramboo–386th rank, Abid Sadiq–501st rank, Amanullah Tak–571st rank and Dr Ruveda Salam Bajjad–820th rank.

In the last few years dozens of Kashmiri candidates have qualified in the prestigious examination.  In 2010, Shah Faisal, a Kashmiri doctor, hit the headlines for creating history by becoming the first Kashmiri to top the exam.
