A City boy was awarded ‘Jeevan Raksha Award’ by the Union government on Thursday, for saving the life of three.
S S Madhu, 14, a resident of Rajajinagar, had rescued his mother S K Arathi, younger brother Manoj and grandmother Kamalamma, who had gone for a dip in the river Cauvery at Chunchankatte in KR Nagar taluk of Mysore and were caught in the strong current in 2011.
The award carries a purse of Rs 40,000, two silver medals and a citation from President Pranab Mukherjee.
V Mahesh, Principal Secretary, Government of Karnataka, presented the award to Madhu in the presence of City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar.
