Harassed girl trusts cop, risks molestation at mall

Last Updated 16 May 2013, 21:13 IST

A girl, who trusted an Uttar Pradesh cop and laid a trap to nab a youth who used to pass lewd comments on her and stalk her, had the fright of her life when the policeman ditched her at the eleventh hour even as the stalker arrived at the chosen spot.

According to the victim, who lived in a hostel in the state capital, she was being stalked and harassed by a youth for several days. “The youth would call me several times and also follow me whenever I went out,” she said.

Fed up with her continued molestation, the girl approached the police and narrated her plight to them. Dharmendra Shukla, an inspector at the Vikas Nagar police station in the state capital, asked the girl to lay a trap for the youth.

According to the plan, the girl was to call the stalker at a mall around eight in the evening on Tuesday. Shukla said that he would also be there in plain clothes and would nab the youth as soon as he arrived there.

The girl reached the venue on time and the youth also reached there a few minutes later. But Shukla gave a slip. “I was scared when I found that the cop was not there,” the victim said.

In the meantime the youth held the girl’s hand and tried to force her to ride his bike and go elsewhere. The girl resisted and shouted for help following which he slapped her several times and fled from there.

Feeling humiliated and betrayed, the girl reached the district police chief’s office and lodged a complaint.

A probe was later ordered into the incident. “Stern action will be taken against the cop if he is found to be guilty,” officials said.
