The City’s music scene is always vibrating and innovating. Despite the heavy rains last weekend, the recent edition of ‘Garage Jam’ held at Sonido Musicals saw its share of regular music lovers as well as a few new faces.

One could see a lot of head-banging happening as the bands played different genres, getting the audience pepped up and joining in the groove.

They danced to the beats and some were even found ‘air-guitaring’ while the
two bands –– ‘Nurotia’ and ‘Stop! Breathe’ –– performed.

Different in their own genres, the compositions differed in style too.

‘Nurotia’, an experimental music band, impressed the audience with compositions like ‘Blink’, ‘Geometry’, ‘Negative One’ and ‘Acolyte’.

Ishan Kanwar, the manager and bass guitarist of the band, said, “This
jamming session is a great venue for music listeners as well as performers alike. The performers are given total freedom on how to go about their show.”

Ishan, who has performed earlier at this venue, described it as a perfect opportunity for artistes who are new to the music scene.

Talking about the compositions, he said, “Our music deals with different themes. It varies from pure hatred to exploring different emotions.”

‘Stop! Breathe’, which  played next, maintained the tempo of the evening.
The band played many covers of songs like ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and ‘Anna
Molly’.

The band, which classifies itself as an alternative-cum-indie rock band, also played original compositions like ‘Goodbye’, ‘Shadows’ and ‘Drowning’, which left the crowd excited and anticipating more.

Anshuman Baruah, the drummer of the band, said, “This was our first time at the ‘Garage Jam’ and the experience was good. Those who had come to listen are true admirers of music.”

He adds that the band’s compositions often revolve around happy-go-lucky themes and are uplifting numbers.

Anshuman said, “There are a lot of places where one can go in the City to hang out and listen to music. But this is one place where the focus is purely on the
music.”

Commenting on the show, Girish K J Menon, a professional in the City, said,
“I’m a regular here. This is a great platform for upcoming talent and for music lovers.” He also added that the best part of the place is the fact that one can get to listen to all kinds of music.
