Kanden Kadhalai

Last Updated 30 October 2009, 18:54 IST

Remakes are always a suspect. It is a rarity that they succeed like the original. R Kannan’s Tamil take on ‘Jab We Met’ (JWM) 2007 super-duper Hindi hit ‘Kanden Kadhalai’ (KK) tries to cash in on the stupendous success of the Kareena-Shahid starrer.

Though a pale patch on the original, ‘KK’ is still a delight, at least for those who have not seen the Hindi version.

Deeply rooted in the Tamil milieu, KK, a faithful facsimile of ‘JWM’, takes viewers on a celluloid cruise right through the verdant and idyllic Tamil heartland. Director Kannan’s ‘KK’ makes for a jolly jaunt across the country-side as its principal pair criss-cross the picturesque Chengalpet, Virudachalam, Pollachi, Theni, Palani, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Madurai, Tanjore. Indeed, with cinematographer P G Muthai at the helm the film turns into a conducted tour of these cities.  ‘KK’ comes across as a clean, fun-filled, romantic family flick. Bharath and Tamanna pass muster trying to whip up the Kareena-Shahid celluloid chemistry. Santhanam, Manobala and co with their comedy do, however, take the cake.
