A fire at the BSNL office on Raj Bhavan Road early Thursday morning, left a scene of destruction.

Furniture and valuable records were gutted, even as six fire tenders attempted to douse the flames. The fire was extinguished after an half-hour operation. “There were no casualties in the mishap,” police said.

Thick smoke and flames were noticed inside the office, located on the third floor, at around 6 am. A staffer immediately called the fire control room which dispatched its tenders to the location. They arrived at the office eight minutes later, but were hindered from going into action because the office doors and windows were closed, said sources in the fire department.

Several mobile phones, cupboards and other furniture were reduced to ashes. “The total worth of the loss is yet to be estimated,” police said.

According to the fire department, a team of 20 firemen were involved in the operation.
