Singam II
Tamil (A)   ¬¬
Cast: Surya, Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Anjali
Director: Hari G

Sequels are always a suspect. A tricky and risky affair. And Singam II  proves this amply. Doubly loaded, dishing out double dose of high-decibel action and mushy romance, Singam II is simply deja vu. A cosmetic change in narrative and script. But, director Hari knows his audience. So Singam II  turns out to be another thunder and lightning, fist and fury affair. Walking through the tailored role, Surya towers yet again as the righteous, no-nonsense Durai Singam.

After taking on the mafia in the first part, Durai Singam now trains his brain, brawn and bravado to bring to book drug dealers Danny, Bhai, Sagayam and Thangaraj. How our daredevil cop — who goes undercover as an NCC teacher at a school to accomplish his mission, Operation D — forms the fulcrum of Singam II. For romance you have Sathya, a student falling for Durai Singam bowled over by his bravery, though he still loves Kavya and waits to wed her.

The first half is racy. The second half peters out into a tame and trite climax, despite the twist after intermission. Surya, with his handlebar moustache and roaring dialogues, rocks the show. Anushka, Hansika and Anjali are pretty props providing diversion from the heavy duty stuff. Singam II’s fatal flaw is that it is loud and lengthy. For Surya fans, it is paisa-vasool time at theatres. The rest, though, can take it easy.
