A trough of low pressure over the Arabian Sea will bring copious rain to coastal Karnataka, besides hill ranges of Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu as South west monsoon remains "active" in Kerala, the regional weather office said today.

"Isolated heavy to very heavy rain would occur over coastal Karnataka, Kerala and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 48 hours (beginning 0830 hrs today)," SR Ramanan, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre, said.

Isolated heavy rain would also occur over ghat areas of south interior Karnataka, Telangana, hill ranges of Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep during the same period, he said.

Southern states received good rainfall and according to the weather office statistics released this morning, Koida (AP) and Vaikom (Kerala) received 10 cm each while Castle Rock in Karnataka and Chinnakalar (TN) topped the respective states with 6 cm each.

Meanwhile, Chennai received overnight rains, resulting in water-logging of low-lying areas.
Weather office forecast rains or thundershowers for the city for the next 24 hours (beginning 0830 hrs today), with the mercury expected to be around a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius.
