Any human being needs a good night’s rest after a hard day of work. Choosing the right furniture can make one relax right. Especially beds need to be comfortable to sleep fitfully. Many decades ago, we used to spread a mat on the floor and a cotton-filled bed with pillows was the only, and the best, option for a relaxed sleep. Even today, for many physical ailments the doctor’s best prescription is to sleep flat on the floor. Today, sleeping on the floor concept has all but vanished and the cots have replaced beds on the floor. Though this was a luxury initially, every household now adds a cot as an element in their interior decoration as well as for comfort.

There are many types of cots available in the market and while choosing them to make a style statement one has to keep in mind the area it occupies. Here are some options:

Wrought iron cot is the most commonly used as an alternative to the wooden ones considering its cost effectiveness. They are available in various designs and set colours. They need to be kept clean periodically to avoid dust settling in the edges and on the frames. They are light and easy to shift. When not in regular use the legs can be folded and kept aside. Platform cots are made out of variety of woods. This would give the bedroom a simple look. Dark polished wood is the best option. This can complement the usage of neutral coloured bedspreads and embroidered pillows with suitable rug on the floor.

Standard cot made out of different types of wood is very common and a regular option for everyone. They can have plain head board. These cots can play a double role too. Storage space beneath the same can accommodate the extra clothing and blankets used for beds. A unique option in the wooden cots is available in the selected market. This is the divan-cum single bed-cum-double bed. This is a great space saver as one of the cots can slide below the other so that it will become a single cot or a comfortable divan. The uneven height of the cots when spread is compensated by having separate beds which can match the height evenly.

Maharaja cot is another option which may create a bedroom to treat the user as King or Queen. Beautifully carved cots made out of teak, Honne and Mathi are generally preferred for these high-end comforts. These woods are preferred as they are available in natural colours.

Children need special attention in selecting their cots. Bunker beds are the most preferred. They are available in variety of designs and are available both in wood and steel. Children’s bed clothes can also be stored under these bunker beds. Sofa-cum-bed is another space saver. They can be used as sofa during day time and during night it can be spread as bed especially to meet the needs of guests.

Divans are also good option. In many furniture exhibitions one can see some specially designed Divan or sofa-cum-bed. One among them is a sofa made out of thick foam of about 10 inches. This can be spread and converted into a comfortable double bed. Similarly, another model is made out of wooden planks. They are available in two or three seaters. When spread they become either a single cot or a double cot. However they require special beddings which can be of utility both as sofa and bed.

Pick suitable cushion beds and pillows and you are all set for a comfortable place to relax.
