Student crushed under lorry wheels

A 19-year-old engineering student was crushed under the wheels of a lorry after the vehicle rear-ended her two-wheeler on Kogilu Main Road on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Arshita (alias Arpitha Gowda), a resident of Balaji Layout in Kogilu Nagar. According to police, the accident took place at 9 am in front of the Aditya PU College.

Arshita was flung from the vehicle and came under the rear wheels of the lorry. She was killed instantly. The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, police added. Arshita was married to Manjunath, a businessman, five months ago. She was a second year student at NITTE College, police said.

Pedestrian mowed down

Kalai Selvam, 42, was mowed down by a speeding four-wheeler in K R Puram traffic police limits while he was crossing the Mahadevapura Ring Road. He sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Selvam was a painter by profession.

The four-wheeler sped away from the scene of the accident, police said.
