While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central leadership is gearing up for anointing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the party’s prime ministerial candidate, the state unit of the party is gearing up for a mega celebration for him on September 17.

The party is planning a large-scale mass connect programme to be started on Modi’s birthday.

While the need for Modi’s enhanced connect with the people in the wake of his prime ministerial ambitions have been felt by the party for some time, Gujarat BJP spokesperson IK Jadeja said that his birthday would provide an adequate occasion to initiate the drive in his home state. Modi has already made his wish of decimating the Congress across all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat.

Reportedly, the youth wing of the party has been mandated to enrol at least two lakh members from the unorganised sector and all the other morchas including SC, ST, OBC, Kisan and Minority Morchas have been asked to enroll at least one lakh members each.

“There are several programmes, which are being drawn up for various cells of the party, apart from membership drive there would also be pledges of eye donation and free health check up camps,’’ said Jadeja.
