Indian bureaucracy has failed in utilising the services of technical experts in various fields in the country. Government should take steps to receive suggestions from these experts often, said MP A H VIshwanath, here on Sunday.

Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was wise enough to recognise the skills of Visvesvaraya and employed his expertise for the development of the region. Similiar steps should be taken by governments to ensure development, he said.

He was speaking at the 46th Engineers Day celebrations held to commemorate the birthday of Sir M Visvesvaraya at Institute of Engineers (India) premises.

He said that the country has failed in utilising the knowledge of experts and also the funds to implement flagship programmes of the government.

Hundreds of crores were sanctioned to Mysore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM). Despite the project being introduced on a pilot basis in Mysore, progress has been dissatisfactory.

Government also provided Rs 146 crores for the expansion of the airport in the city.
Land acquisition was also completed. However, the past government of Karnataka failed to implement the project and sent the funds back, he said.

He said that the country is suffering from caste and religion based differences and riots. Such instances must be brought to a stop, he said.

Convenor of Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM), M Lakshmana speaking on similiar lines said that engineers are being victimised in the country.

If any constrution activity is of poor quality, engineer always gets the blame, while nobody questions the contractor who is responsible for construction, he said.

A total of 12 engineers from various disciplines of engineering were felicitated during the ceremony.
