Youths to unravel their talent on stage

After Navaratri theatre festival, Rangayana repertory in the city is all set to host its annual Youth Theatre festival. A week long B V Karanth Yuva Rangotsava is scheduled to be held from October 20 at Bhoomigeetha in Rangayana.

Addressing the media in the city on Thursday, Rangayana Director Janardhan (Janni) said troupes from eight different colleges in the city will be performing as part of the fest.

Equal opportunity has been given to women’s colleges, with four colleges selected for the event. The plays have been directed by the students of Bharateeya Ranga Shikshana Kendra (a theatre institute of Rangayana) working as junior artistes in the repertory. The plays will be staged at 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm.

The fest will begin with the staging of the play ‘Nammolagina Pathragalu’ by the students of SDM Women’s College, Lakshmipuram, and directed by Kitti Gaonkar, on October 20; followed by ‘Advanapura’ by JSS Women’s Degree College, Saraswatipuram, directed by Arun Kumar on October 21; ‘Punjabina Mathe’ by Maharani’s Science Women’s PU College, directed by Sheela Kumari D on October 22; ‘Aa Gandhi Ee Gandhi’ by St Philomena’s Degree College, directed by Mohammed Ali on October 23; ‘Huliya Neralu’ by Maharaja’s College, Mysore, directed by Santosh Halamani on October 24; ‘Mukti’ by Maharani’s Arts and Commerce College, Mysore, directed by Praveen Belli on October 25; ‘Anche Mane’ by Vijaya Vittala PU College, Saraswatipuram, on October 26; and ‘Yaare Koogadali’ by Mahajana PU College, Jayalakshmipuram, directed by Ravishankar on October 27. 

For students, the ticket rates has been slashed by 50 per cent (Rs 15) against Rs 30 for public.

To help budding talents exchange ideas with veterans, interactive sessions with actors Lohitashwa, Kashinath, Sunder Raj, Devaraj, Ramesh Bhat, Arun Sagar; directors S V Rajendra Singh Babu and Nanjunde Gowda have been organised.

Convener of the fest Saroja Hegde said noted actor and rationalist G K Govinda Rao will inaugurate the fest on the day at 6 pm. Thinker Rudrappa Anagavadi will be the chief guest. Multilingual actor Prakash Raj will deliver the valedictory address on October 27 and actor Mandya Ramesh also the member of Ranga Samaja, the governing body of the repertory will be the chief guest.
