Postal staffer loses valuable documents, ordered to pay up

Bangalore, Nov 22, dhns:

The Bangalore Urban Principal Forum has come to the aid of a dismayed consumer who lost vital documents due to severely deficient service rendered by the post office.

Pallavi Rao Karant residing in National Games Village was waiting for a parcel sent by her brother from the UK containing original BSc degree certificate, MSc marks card, MSc degree certificate and MSc gold medal certificate. These vital documents were required to send to the Canada University to obtain a scholarship to do her PHd in Biotechnology.
When the parcel did not arrive she enquired at the Viveknagar post office and was shocked to know that the parcel had been delivered to her! Further enquiry revealed that the postwoman had lost the parcel and had forged her signature on the acknowledgement form! This amounted to negligence and criminal offence. She complained to this forum which has ordered the Director General of Posts, the Chief Post Master General and the Post Master to pay up Rs 25,000 as compensation along with Rs 5,000 as costs to the complainant.

This Forum has also ordered an electrical firm to pay up money to a consumer.
Fouzia Banu Jalaluddin had applied to BESCOM for an additional load of 30 KVA for his house situated on the second floor of a building in Shantinagar. He approached S A Electricals to provide a cable that would be able to accommodate an additional load of 30 KVA. The firm proprietor promised to install a proper cable and was paid an advance. But he brought in some roadside labourers for the work and did not supervise them. The labourers damaged the already existing underground cable and then left the work unfinished.

Fouzia Jalaluddin had to find other labourers to complete the work. Again after the panel and the meter were fixed, the opposite party did a vanishing act and left the consumer to get Bescom personnel to finish the work and rectify the numerous mistakes of this firm. But the proprietor dismayed the consumer by giving him an inflated bill, for more than the market price of the product. He was also informed by the Bescom personnel that the cable provided by the firm was not adequate to do the job of carrying the additional load of 30 KVA to her house!
He complained to this Forum which has ordered S A Electricals to redo the work as per the specification without extra cost or to refund his Rs 55,530 along with compensation of of Rs 10,000 within one month.

Fridge not delivered

M S Ramu had ordered an L G refrigerator from E Zone Home Solutions in Rajajinagar and paid up Rs 14,710 as advance. It was to be delivered to him on 10-3-2009 but it did not arrive even till 20-3-2009 after which they refused to answer his calls. He finally cancelled the booking by email. Here too he had to send various emails but the response was poor. Store manager, Bobby Thomas apologised but the money was not returned.
He finally approached this Forum which has ordered the firm to repay the Rs 14,710 along with Rs 5,000 as compensation.
