Elephant herd tramples man to death

A herd of elephants trampled a man to death near Kodihalli forest range in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagara district on Tuesday evening.

According to forest officials, Suresh, 43, was walking near the forest while some forest officials were busy driving the elephants back into the forest after they had strayed into the village. 

While being chased, the elephants ran amuck and Suresh, who came in their way was trampled to death. In another incident on Tuesday morning, an elephant attacked a man in Chembakolli Doddi.

According to forest officials, Cheluvayya, who went to answer the call of nature, noticed an elephant and began scaring it away, but the jumbo attacked him. Cheluvayya started running to escape from the chasing jumbo, which flung him with its trunk. 

He sustained grievous injuries. Later, the villagers burst firecrackers driving the elephant back into the forest. Cheluvayya was admitted to a nearby hospital from where he was shifted to Victoria Hospital in City. The officials said the same elephant had attacked another person in Kuntekere Doddi fortunately he escaped without injuries.

An elephant was shot dead by miscreants in Ramadevara hillock near Kodihalli in Kanakapura. According to officials of the forest department, the wild elephant had come for foraging in a farmland and the landowner might have killed it. An inquiry has been ordered.
