Engineer stabbed in scuffle

An engineer was admitted to hospital after being stabbed by unidentified men in front of his house near Florence School in Basaveshwaranagar on Sunday night.

According to police, the incident occurred when Mithun Kumar, 25, a native of Pavagada, went out for a walk after dinner. Three men who appeared on a two-wheeler asked Mithun to hand over his mobile phone. They also allegedly demanded to know why he was sending lewd and obscene messages to the sister of one of the men.

When Mithun told them he had no idea what they were talking about, they attempted to grab his phone. When he resisted, one of them stabbed him, police said. Hearing his cries, neighbours rushed him to a hospital. “He is said to be out of danger,” police said.

Official caught taking bribe

Lokayukta police caught a joint director of the Employment and Training department red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe on Monday.


According to Lokayukta police, the trap was laid after Basavaraj Kuruvathi, a superintendent who was due for a promotion, approached them and filed a complaint against H V Venkataramu. Kuruvathi said Venkataramu allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to process his promotion file. He was caught while accepting an advance of Rs 10,000.

Toddler electrocuted

A toddler was electrocuted at her house in Kattigenahalli, Yelahanka New Town on Sunday afternoon.


The deceased has been identified as Pragati, the youngest daughter of Akalappa and Ammanni.

According to police, the incident occurred when Ammanni, who was cooking food on an electric stove, neglected to turn off the appliance during a power cut. Later, when power was restored, Ammanni was watching television in the hall when her daughter went into the kitchen, and in a moment of play, touched the stove.

Although the child was rushed to Victoria Hospital after the incident, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on Monday afternoon. She was one-and-half years old.

Girl rescued

Sleuths of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) broke up a prostitution racket in Sampangiramanagar last Saturday.

According to sources, CCB police arrested two men, Pavan, 29, and Arjun, 32, and rescued a girl from Uttar Pradesh, who had been forced into prostitution. Another suspect, Praveen, is at large and the police have launched a manhunt to nab him.

Two held for selling drugs

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Saturday arrested two men on the charge of selling narcotics.


According to police, Nishan Abdul Khader, 27, a native of Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district, and Vijeth, 28, both residents of RT Nagar, were arrested by the CCB when they were waiting for potential customers in front of Suvarnabhoomi Apartment in RT Nagar.

The arrests were made following a tip-off. The CCB have recovered Rs 50,000 worth of narcotic substances such as LSD blotter paper, two grams of MDMA (Ecstasy), three mobile phones and Rs 3,100 in cash. .

Debt-ridden man ends life

Unable to bear the burden of debt, a painter committed suicide in Malleshpalya on Sunday.


According to Baiyappanahalli police, Anthony, 45, ended his life by hanging himself. The death was discovered in the evening when his wife and two children returned home after visiting Shivajinagar.
