A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Bihar for being accused in three cases of sexual assault of minor girls in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri. The cases were reported in June, September and December, police said on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Azad Khan, who hails from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.
“He worked as unskilled labourer in the capital for the past three years. At present, he was working with several factories in Tughlakabad Extention,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) P Karunakaran.

It is said that Azad abducted the victims from Tughlakabad Extention and sexually assaulted them in the nearby jungle area of Tughlakabad Fort.

He used to fox unsuspecting minor girls by threatening to complain to their parents for beating his nephew.

Before the petrified victim could comprehend the real motive, Azad used to take them to a secluded spot and rape them.

“During investigation, a portrait of the accused person was made and given to the beat staff to develop information over the suspect,” Karunakaran added.

Several police teams then searched nearby areas, and Eyes and Ears Scheme members were also taken into confidence to trace the suspect. “Source information along with technical data analysis pointed to Azad being the prime suspect,” Karunakaran said.

Accordingly, a team led by sub-inspector Sandeep Godara of Special Staff South East Delhi was sent to Bihar. After thorough investigation, Azad was arrested.

Other cases

After fulfilling legal requirements, Azad’s remand will be taken to ascertain his involvement in other case of sexual assault on minor girls.

In the latest case, a 10-year-old was allegedly raped by Azad on December 4. The girl was playing outside her house when she went missing at around 8 pm. She returned home around 11 pm with bruises all over her body.

“Police were informed and the girl underwent treatment at AIIMS trauma centre,” a police officer said.
