Air pollution control month observed

She was speaking after inaugurating the debate competition by watering a sapling at the Madhugiri Government First Grade College on Wednesday. The programme was observed as part of Air Pollution Control Month.

Vehicles are the main cause for the air pollution. Awareness about the ill-effects of air pollution should be created among the public, which can help in reducing the damage to the environment, she said.

Madhugiri science centre president M S Jayaram opined that vehicles were not the only factor responsible for the pollution. It is also caused by bad management of the garbage, he said.

He advised the students to form Green Club and plant saplings. Government Pre-university College Principal Kumaraswamy presided over the function. Assistant RTO Gopalakrishana, lecturer N Mahalingesh, K Ranganath, District Teachers’ Association General Secretary Amarendranath, Private Bus Owners’ Association president M G Manjunath, K V Suryanarayana, B G Kishor, G S Jagadeesh Kumar and other were present.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the debate competition on the topic ‘Effects of the Air Pollution’. Bhavyashree, Shivaraj, K N Shruti gained first, second and third position in the debate.
