The Canadian Office has rolled out its Canadian Technology Accelerator or CTA@India initiative in Bangalore.

The objective is to facilitate high potential technology-based Canadian and Indian startups.

As part of the programme, six Indian and six Canadian startups have been selected for pilot phase. The initiative is aimed at leveraging innovation ecosystems in India and Canada by extending support to early stage tech start-ups.

The programme will help Indian startups with global launch of their product/technology using Canadian innovation ecosystem as platform. The selected startups will be matched with Canadian mentors, incubators/accelerators, potential investors and introduced to designated organisations for Start-Up Visa programme.

Through this structured, four-month virtual programme, participating startups will receive opportunities to pitch for investors, access global partners and clients.

They will also get feedback on their product/technology, attend focused sessions on how to adapt to Indian/North American markets and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions by industry experts and thought leaders in both Canada and India.

The six Indian startups include two from Bangalore – AxisRooms and Zapstitch – while other four are Nityaa Technosys-Pune, NowFloats-Hyderabad, Piquor-Gurgaon, S-Cube-Mumbai.

The six Canadian startups are Azzimov Mobile-Montreal, Calgary Scientific-Calgary, Ecamion Inc-Markham, Optessa Inc-Edmonton, Wedge Networks-Calgary, Zighra-Ottawa.

The CTA@India is similar to models like CTA@NYC, New York City, established in 2012 to help Canadian digital media companies access key resources to accelerate their growth.

Canada sees New York taking centre stage for Internet-based technology entrepreneurship and as capital of advertising, media, fashion/retail, financial services and innovation.

Since launch, CTA@NYC has worked with over 50 alumni companies, and Canada says it has generated significant results for these businesses.
