Rallies, protests, celebration mark May Day in B'lore

 While workers rallied in many parts of the City demanding better working conditions on May Day, the day was also marked with fun-filled events and celebrations, which came as a welcome departure from the daily grind. 

The City witnessed the coming together of over 3,000 unorganised sector workers, including contract workers like BBMP Pourakarmikas, State government, computer operators, private industry workers, PSU workers, among others, who joined hands under the aegis of the All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU) on Thursday, demanding living wages with a basic salary of Rs 15,000. Also, street vendors called for the implementation of the National Street Vendors Law and took part in a rally from the Freedom Park to Town Hall. 

The All India Trade Union Congress, Bangalore, organised a procession of workers, which saw huge participation from both, the organised and the unorganised sectors. The procession began from Malleswaram Circle and proceeded to the Telugu Vignana Samithi premises. On the occasion, AITUC working president, H Mahadevan, spoke on the significance and the history of the May Day.

Apart from protests, celebrations and games enthralled over 680 workers from the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), as shot put, long jump, 100 metre, 200 metre and 400 metre races, among other events, was organised at the Mount Carmel College ground in Vasanthnagar.

 Workers from various projects of the Brigade Group, Mantri Developers, Vaishnavi Group, Sattva Group, Puravankara, Total Environment, Sobha Group, Bearys Group, Value Design Build, Souparnika, Adarsh Developers, Olety Constructions, Shriram Group, Soul Space projects, JMC projects, Graystone group and Pashmina developers participated in the activities.
