The BBMP Council has deferred the discussion on the bifurcation of the civic agency till its next meeting.

Mayor B S Satyanarayana cited an important meeting on solid waste management with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as the reason for deferring the discussion on the subject.
Ahead of the council meeting, the Bangalore Nirmapaka Kempegowda Kendra Samithi held a protest outside the BBMP office against the bifurcation. The group said that bifurcating a historic city like Bangalore could not be a solution to the problem. The general secretary of the Samithi alleged that problems arose in the absence of a sincere and honest administration.

Transport and District In-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy had written a letter to the Chief Minister on the bifurcation of the BBMP.

He had given examples of Mumbai, Kolkata and London that have more than one municipal bodies to cater to the growing needs of the respective cities.

Detailed discussion

He said he had a detailed discussion with the former chief secretary A Ravindra, senior officers and urban experts to address the growing needs of Bangalore, and they advocated division of the Palike.
