The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Standing Committee on Ward Level Works has set five-month deadline to Palike engineers and contractor for completing the upgrading work of Banashankari Referral hospital.

Palike Chairman on Ward Level Works, A H Basavaraj, who undertook an inspection of the Palike-run hospital on Friday, maintained that due to the negligence of Palike officers, the hospital was still in dilapidated condition.

He said “The hospital was built 45 years ago. The structure had become very weak and hence, a tender was floated to rebuild the hospital in the year 2011. The work order was issued only in March 2013 but the project did not start.”

He added that as soil testing was not carried out prior to the floating of the tender in 2011 by the Palike officials, a second tender was floated and the work order was issued in the month of June 2013. The deadline to complete the work was one year but till date not even 25 per cent of the work has been completed,” Basavaraj said.

The Committee has set five-month deadline to Chief Engineer of BBMP South Zone P S Ramesh and other Executive Engineers. The contractor too was issued a notice and warned to complete the work on time.

According to the members, the total cost of the work is Rs 1.3 crore including the construction of new building at the hospital premises.

The building will have all the facilities such as Operation Theatre (OT), Blood bank among others.
