Thousands of girl students descended on the streets, demanding security for women and children, in Chamarajanagar, on Monday.

They urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to drop Home Minister K J George from the Cabinet.

They took out a mammoth rally, under the aegis of Akhila Bharat Vidyarthi Parishat, to protest against the inaction of the Congress government and George, despite an increase in cases related to assault on women and children.

The rally was taken out from the JSS College to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where a memorandum was submitted. Meanwhile, the agitators staged a mock funeral of George at Bhuvaneshwari Circle.

Prime accused Nasir Hyder, who raped a PG student at Pulakeshinagra, should be hanged, while his accomplices should get at least life imprisonment.

Mustafa, who has allegedly raped a first standard student of Vibgyor School should also be punished severely.

From 2009 to 2011, 14,989 women and girls have gone missing in Karnataka. In Bangalore alone, 325 cases of rape on girls and 151 cases of rape on young women have been reported this year. But, the Home Minister is yet to wake up from a slumber, they said.

Students of JSS First Grade and PU Colleges, Sevabharathi College, Government Polytechnic and other institutions took part in the protest. V Aishwarya, Chaithanya, Sheethal, Ekalavanya, Sharanya, Ashwini, Shilpa, Prafulla, Chaitra and others were present.
