New police chief moots coordination with schools

Last Updated 21 July 2014, 21:21 IST

M N Reddi, who assumed office as the Bangalore City Police Commissioner has suggested coordination between school managements and the local police.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, Reddi said that every school can nominate a nodal officer to keep in touch with the jurisdictional police officer.

“The police should reach out to the public. I know it is a difficult task considering the huge number of schools. But we have to do it. This way there will be frequent interaction between the schools and the jurisdictional police. The police can also visit the schools and interact with the children and even parents during the meetings,'' Reddi said.

He said that the management of Vibgyor High school would be booked under appropriate law.

Referring to the FIR against Pulikeshinagar inspector, the commissioner said that a police officer was bound to register the FIR on receiving a complaint for a cognisable offence.

Reddi was instrumental in acting against anti-social elements, particularly those involved in land grabbing and spreading communal hatred. He said that tackling goondas will be his priority.

“Tackling goondas will be my priority and this can be achieved through robust policing. The City police will relentlessly chase anti-social elements and invoke provisions under Karnataka Police Act, Criminal Procedure Code and Goonda Act. We will keep rowdy elements under surveillance and strengthen intelligence gathering. My experience as ADGP (Law and Order) will come in handy for me,” he said.

Replying to a question on occupying top cop post at a time when City police was drawing flak, Reddi said that he enjoyed challenges. He said he had a team of efficient officers in the police commissionerate and they would leave no stone unturned in maintaining law and order in the City.

Reddi said that basic policing is the best way to instill confidence among law abiding citizens.
