Rivers in spate as heavy rain pounds State

Heavy rain lashed parts of Shimoga and Kodagu districts while there were intermittent rains in Dakshina Kannada district.

Normal life went out of gear in Shimoga district as it rained almost for the whole day. Students had tough time in reaching schools and colleges.

Vast tracts of agricultural lands were inundated. Movement of vehicles between Shimoga and Thirthahalli was disrupted as the road near Mandagadde was submerged in water.

Power supply was disrupted in Agumbe and nearby villages.

Hosanagar, Thirthahalli and Sagar taluks continued to receive heavy rain. In the last 24 hours, Mastikatte received the highest rainfall of 152 mm, followed by Hosanagar (150.60 mm), Agumbe (149 mm), Hulikal (128 mm) and Yadur (122 mm.

Kodagu

Several parts of Kodagu district received heavy downpour throughout the day. Rain pounded Madikeri, Bhagamandala, Somwarpet, Shanthalli, Srimangala, Balele, Kutta and surrounding areas.

Mangalore

Intermittent rain continued to lash Dakshina Kannada.

Though the sky remained overcast for the whole day, it started raining towards evening.  In the last 24 hours, the district received an average of 37 mm rainfall.

It rained 45.43 mm in Udupi.

Chikmagalur

The Chikmagalur administration has declared holiday for schools and colleges in Mudigere taluk on Tuesday in the wake of heavy rains. Kottigehara has received 53 inches of rain in the last 0 days.

As many as 87 electricity poles have been uprooted in the taluk district, affecting power supply.

Belgaum

Rains returned to Khanapur taluk after a lull on Monday. It rained 10 cm at Kankumbi, the birthplace of River Malaprabha.

Tree branches fell on electricity poles affecting power supply in some villages.

The water level in River Krishna and its tributaries came down on Monday as rains receded in the neighbouring Maharashtra.

However, five bridges in Chikodi taluk continued to remain under water for the third consecutive day.

Water levels go up

Water level in major reservoirs of the State went up following heavy rains in catchment areas. The water level in Linganamakki rose to 1772.40 feet against the maximum level of 1819 feet as the catchment area of the dam received rainfall of 52.60 mm.

Similarly, the water level in Bhadra rose to 158.90 feet against the maximum of 186 feet.

The Tunga dam is almost full with water up to 587.96 metre. Mani dam had water up to 578.20 feet against the maximum of 594.36 feet.

Around 5,500 cusecs water was released from Harangi reservoir, which filled to the brim on Sunday.
