The attackers of the 29-year-old Manipuri man who was thrashed to death by five men in south Delhi during wee hours of Monday may have been in two cars.

A source revealed that CCTV footage suggests two of the five attackers were trailing the Verna car in which three of the attackers were seated.

One or more of the occupants of the Volkswagen Polo car were also involved in the attack, the source said.

Sanjay Basoya, Shakti Basoya and Rajiv were seated in the Verna and they were the ones honking incessantly.

Only three men, not five as reported earlier, were arrested on Monday. Twenty four-year-old Azad Chaudhary, a driver, was arrested on Tuesday.

He was allegedly following in the other car with another suspect who has been detained and whose role in the attack is being established.

Meanwhile, police have also included relevant sections of the Prevention of Atrocities against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act in the FIR copy.

Giving the details of the murderous assault on Akha Salouni, David Boyes, Convenor of North East India against Racism, said that the entire gang grabbed Salouni with a cloth around his neck, swung him in the air and laid him on the ground before thrashing him to death.

Hailing from Senapati district of Manipur, Salouni had come to Delhi to pursue his career.

“After finishing his graduation in Manipur, he taught briefly in a private school in his hometown. His passion to study further and make a difference in his career led him to Delhi,” said Boyes.

Salouni had joined a BPO to support himself. Very recently, he quit the job to focus on competitive examinations.

Meanwhile, Salouni’s family members and dozens of other northeastern people in Delhi held a candle light vigil at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday evening.

Among those who expressed solidarity with Salouni’s family members was Nido Tania’s mother.

The 20-year-old Tania from Arunachal Pradesh had been thrashed to death by locals in south Delhi in January this year.
