New Police Commissioner M N Reddi on Tuesday told the rank and file of city police to get basic policing right and use of  technology in crime detection.

In a meeting held at the police commissioner’s office, Reddi asked inspectors to adopt community outreach programmes.

“I have asked policemen to stick to basic policing. The community should be partners in building a peaceful society. Without cordial relationship with the community, policing cannot be improved,” Reddi said.

The commissioner also directed the police inspectors and assistant commissioners of police (ACPs) to take stern action against anti-social elements.

He also emphasised on using technology for crime investigation, especially forensic and cyber technology.

Another forensic lab

“I have plans to use technology effectively in preventing crime. There is a proposal to set up another forensic science laboratory and the issue would be taken up with the government. Steps would be taken to instal CCTV cameras at crucial junctions across the City,” he said.

He directed the police inspectors to keep a tab on rowdy elements and monitor their movements. The inspectors should patrol the place(s) frequented by rowdies and anti-social elements.
