Only one suspect involved in rape: Cops

The ongoing investigation into the rape of a six-year-old student at Vigbyor High school has indicated that only one man, skating instructor Mustafa, was involved in the sexual offence.

After the girl was raped inside a room in the school on July 2, she came out crying.

A guard noticed her and took her to a teacher, leaving her there. The traumatised girl could not distinguish between Mustafa and the guard. Hence, during the initial days, she claimed that two persons raped her. 

Finally, it was established that guard was not involved in the crime, a senior police officer told Deccan Herald on Wednesday.

“It does not mean that there would not be more arrests. 

There are some more people in the management who acted according to school chairman Rustom Kerawalla’s instructions. Hence, we will arrest them shortly. 

The number of arrests will surely go up. We have collected enough evidence in this regard.

Kerawalla and his men were informed about the incident soon after it came to light on July 2. It was Kerawalla who took the decision against informing the police as it would spoil the school’s reputation.

He kept pressurising, warning and threatening the school staff against informing the police. Even when he was with police officers, he was found to be directing his staff to remain quiet,” said a senior police officer who is supervising the investigation.

Meanwhile, a special team of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police visited the school  on Wednesday and questioned a sports coach. The police recorded his statement.

The coach said that he was not aware of the incident until a complaint was lodged against two members of the school staff, said the police.
