A shower of Monsoon strains

The Monsoon music festival, Barkha Ritu, which is in its 13th year of existence, will be held on July 29, 7 pm at Chowdaiah Hall.

This festival, which presents the Monsoon ragas with its presence in eight major cities across India, will feature Abhishek Raghuram and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia this time.


Abhishek Raghuram hails from a family that brims with legendary musicians. Through the unique guidance of his grandfather, the mridangam legend, Palghat Raghu and as a disciple of ‘Vidwan’ PS Narayanaswamy, Abhishek has gained a deep insight into the intricacies of music. Since the age of seven, he has performed all over India for various organisations in the country and abroad.

Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is among the most sought after musicians of India. A truly internationally acclaimed maestro, apart from Indian classical music  he has also contributed significantly in various other genres like innovative world music ensembles and given some of the great hit songs for Hindi films.

Apart from crisscrossing the globe for live concerts he dedicates his time to imparting knowledge to keen students.

The programme is being presented by Banyan Tree, which have built numerous platforms to put the spotlight on the artists and art forms not just from India but also from other countries.
