Ex-ministers get notices to vacate bungalows

Eviction notices have been served on 16 ministers of the previous dispensation who continue to stay in their official bungalows despite losing their positions after the Lok Sabha elections.

The ministers include Kapil Sibal, S Jaipal Reddy, Ajit Singh and Sachin Pilot. All the 16 ministers owe Rs 20.92 lakh to the government for overstaying, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Former law and telecom minister Sibal, who owns houses and a farmhouse, owes Rs 2.34 lakh to the government for his one-month illegal stay in the bungalow while former Petroleum Minister Reddy owes Rs 2.43 lakh as damage charges. Ex-Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh owes Rs 1.59 lakh.
