Three men took advantage of a woman waiting for a bus at Majestic on Wednesday night, offered her a lift in their car and whisked her to a farmhouse in Thippagondanahalli on the city’s outskirts where they gang-raped her.

The 22-year-old woman managed to escape, but only after she suffered the ordeal. A passing taxi driver rescued the traumatised woman and drove her to the Tavarakere police station. She managed to give the police directions to the farmhouse.

The police rushed to the spot and arrested Arun Kumar, one of the accused, who was in deep slumber. He informed the police about his two associates, Kempa Narasimhaiah and Mahadev, who had left for Magadi. They were arrested a short while later.

Arun Kumar, 24, is the son of Narasimhamurthy, a director of Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Ramanagara Districts Cooperative Milk Producers Societies Union Ltd.

Narasimhaiah, 36, is unemployed while Mahadev, 45, is the caretaker of the farmhouse.

On Wednesday, around 8 PM, the three drove  by the woman at Majestic in their car with heavily tinted glass windows. They offered to drop her to her paying guest accommodation in Vijayanagar.

The unsuspecting woman, who hails from Bihar, and earns a living selling clothes on the pavement in the area, agreed.

Instead of taking her to Vijayanagar, they steered the car towards Thippagondanahalli. The woman realised she was being taken elsewhere and resisted. But the men overpowered her.

They reached the farmhouse around 9:30 PM and locked her in a room. They drank liquor, and later took turns to rape her, the police said. Around 4 AM, the woman managed to flee and reach the main road. A passing taxi driver took her to the police station where she filed a complaint.

“The farmhouse, which is in an isolated place, belongs to one Muniraju who had employed Mahadev as the caretaker. The victim was subjected to medical examination which proved rape. A case of gang-rape and assault has been registered,” said a senior police officer.

Another officer admitted that the police had failed to check the darkened glass on the car which had helped the accused in their crime.
