Cops yet to take any action in Mohini Giri case

No action has been taken by Delhi Police in a complaint filed by former chairperson of the National Commission for Women on Monday. 

Dr V Mohini Giri, 76, was allegedly thrashed when she tried to help a teenage girl, who was being molested by a group of men in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Saturday last.She had sought action in a written complaint sent to Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi. But no action had been taken till late on Wednesday. 

Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) B S Jaiswal has been told to initiate a probe.

Jaiswal and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) P S Kushwah were unavailable for comment. 

Another senior police officer of south district police told Deccan Herald that no FIR has been filed as no such incident came up during the probe.

“We are verifying the incident and conducting an enquiry. So far we have not found any evidence of such an incident,” the officer said.

The officer did not say whether Giri’s statement had been recorded by police, or if she had been requested to join the probe proceedings.

Giri also said she had informed the Delhi Child Welfare Board, All India Democratic Women’s Association, Joint Women’s Programme, National Federation of Indian Women, Young Women’s Christian Association, All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch and All India Women’s Conference.
